Uttarakhand Chief Minister’s son to contest from Tehri

September 16, 2012 11:48 pm | Updated 11:48 pm IST - DEHRA DUN:

Saket Bahuguna, son of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna, was on Sunday declared the Congress nominee for the Tehri Lok Sabha byelection on October 10.

He was given a rousing welcome by party workers at Roorkee and Haridwar on his way here by train.

The seat was vacated by Mr. Vijay Bahuguna six months ago.

The announcement, made by State Congress president Yashpal Arya on behalf of party in-charge Choudhary Birendra Singh, ends the hectic lobbying for the ticket by various leaders in the faction-ridden party.

The byelection is expected to witness an interesting contest between Mr. Saket Bahuguna and BJP nominee Maharani Mala Rajlakshmi, daughter-in-law of the former ruler of Tehri State, Manvendra Shah.
