Dismissing the Union Home Ministry's concern over "frequent" transfer of IPS officers in the State, the Uttar Pradesh Government has said that all the transfers were done on the recommendation of Civil Services Board.
"Transfer of the IPS as well as PPP officers is done by the Civil Services Board' after going through all the details. None of the transfers had been done without the recommendation of the board", the Chief Secretary Atul Kumar Gupta said in a reply to the Centre.
He added that transfer and posting of police officers was prerogative of the State Government to fulfill the responsibility of maintenance of law and order and therefore eligible officers are posted on important posts.
In a letter to the UP Chief Secretary Atul Kumar Gupta a few days back, the Union Home Secretary, G.K. Pillai, had expressed concern over frequent transfers of police officers.
"The transfers were making an adverse impact on the morale of officers," Mr. Pillai, according to sources, had said in his letter.
To substantiate his point, Mr. Pillai had also given details of the police officers transferred soon after their new posting. He had also called for review of such transfers and urged the state government to do away with the practice.
