Expressing concern over a spate of train loot incidents here, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said there was a need to tighten law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh.

“I have come to know about incidents of loots in Lucknow. I will talk to the UP government and ask for tightening law and order situation in the state,” Singh, who is also the Lucknow MP said at the sidelines of the inaugural programme of a nationalised bank branch here.

Four trains were targeted by robbers on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday between Mawaiya and Alamnagar railway stations.

The culprits first targeted Nauchandi Express and looted a female passenger, Anju Gupta of her purse.

They then looted the passengers of three more trains, including Saptkranti Express, Akal Takth Express and Padmavat Express.

No arrests have been made yet, officials said, adding that Government Railway Police (GRP) Inspector Shiv Prakash Sonker has been sent to lines.
