Union ministers to brief Cong leaders on UPA flagship schemes

In a first such exercise, several Union ministers will brief Congress leaders over the next two days on UPA’s flagship programmes to speed up their implementation.

The interaction is the brainchild of AICC General Secretary Vilas Muttemwar, who is incharge of programme implementation.

“The first ever interaction is being undertaken due to the keen interest shown by party chief Sonia Gandhi who wanted better implementation of flagship programmes,” Mr. Muttemwar told PTI.

According to him, nine Union ministers will brief party leaders from the states on the programmes.

Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh, Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pawan Kumar Bansal, Housing and Poverty Alleviation Minister Kumari Selja, Minister for Women and Child Development Krishna Tirath and Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni will brief the leaders on the first day.

On the second day, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath will hold interaction.

Muttemwar said all PCC Presidents and Conveners of the coordination and monitoring committees of the flagship programmes have been invited for the two-day meet that would help remove the lacunae in their implementation.

The programme has been undertaken against the backdrop of complaints that several non-Congress states are trying to take credit for the flagship schemes of the Centre for which huge funds are being made available by the Congress-led coalition.
