The escort vehicle of Union Minister Uma Bharti was hit by the sports utility vehicle of Pravesh Verma, BJP MP, at Vijay Chowk here on Wednesday evening. Two policemen in the Minister’s pilot car and its driver were injured. The SUV was allegedly being driven on the wrong side. Mr. Verma was not present in it.

“Mr. Verma’s vehicle, a Toyota Fortuner, which was coming from the media parking lot towards the alighting point, hit the Maruti Gypsy on the left side injuring the occupants. All of them were then rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where they are being treated for their injuries,” said a police officer.

The injured have been identified as Dinesh, driver, head constable Suresh and constable Trilok. The policemen were escorting Ms. Bharti’s vehicle after she was coming out of Parliament House after the Prime Minister’s speech.

Rajesh Katiyar, personal secretary to Ms. Bharti, said: “Nothing has happened to didi (Uma Bharti). Her Tata Safari (SUV) was behind the pilot vehicle of the Delhi Police which was involved in the incident.”

The traffic policemen present at the spot said they had warned Mr. Verma’s driver, Naveen, not to drive on the wrong side.
