Two women die of swine flu in Nashik; toll rises to six in city

The death toll due to swine flu has risen to six in the city with two more women, one of them pregnant, succumbing to the viral infection. Purva Amol Joshi (23), who was pregnant, and Deepali Shinde (20) died on Wednesday at the Nashik Civil Hospital and Municipal Corporation’s Dr Zakir Hussain Hospital respectively, A D Bhalsingh, surgeon at Nashik Civil Hospital, said on Thursday. Both the victims were local residents.

Reports from Pune’s National Institute of Virology confirmed that they were positive for H1N1 virus, he said.

Earlier, four persons, including a doctor, had died in the civil hospital due to the viral disease, Dr. Bhalsingh said.

Three patients, who tested negative for H1N1, are being treated in the Civil Hospital and they are likely to be discharged soon as their condition has improved, he said.
