All the 40 trawlers that went missing in the Bay of Bengal have been located, but seven of the 15 fishermen in two boats that capsized are still missing, authorities of the West Bengal Fisheries department said.

A fleet of 40 trawlers had gone to the sea last week, with about 540  fishermen on board.

Bijan Maity, the assistant secretary of West Bengal United Fishermen Association said that two trawlers ‘Maharudra’ and ‘Suryanarayan’ capsized in the Bay of Bengal.

"All the 14 fishermen on Maharudra were rescued, only eight persons of the fifteen on the trawler 'Suryanarayan' could be rescued. The remaining persons are still missing," he said.

However, State Fisheries Minister Chandranath Sinha told The Hindu that all the trawlers "barring one" could be located.

"Of the 15 persons on board, eight have been rescued," Mr. Sinha said.

According to representatives of the fishermen association, about 30 trawlers have been located near Dhrana Port in Odisha, and the remaining along the sea coast in Purba Medinipur district of the State.
