Naxals today attacked a police station in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district and killed two policemen.

The Maoists struck at the Bhejji Police Station in the district this morning and opened indiscriminate fire, drawing retaliation from the police personnel.

A jawan and state police force constable, who were on duty at the time of the incident, were killed in the attack after a brief exchange of fire with the Maoists, police officials said.

Both the policemen were readying for a patrol in the area when the Naxal group targeted the police station, they said.

Search operations have been launched in the area by a police team to nab the rebels and plug all possible escape routes of Naxalites, who may also have suffered casualties in the attack, police officials said.
