Two members of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) were killed in a gun battle with the police in Narayanpur district in south Chhattisgarh on Thursday.

“The Maoists had laid an ambush to trap a police party near the Kukrajhar area of Naryanpur district. After receiving inputs, police parties from Narayanpur were mobilised. An exchange of fire took place near Kukrajhar in which two Maoists were neutralised and their bodies were recovered,” the Anti-Naxal Operations unit of the Chhattisgarh police said in a statement.

The security forces also recovered two IEDs and a wireless set from the encounter spot.
