Two central universities proposed in Jammu and Kashmir

Two separate central universities have been proposed to be established in regions of Jammu and Kashmir, Minister of State for Higher Education Manohar Lal Sharma said today.

The central site selection committee, constituted for the purpose, has already furnished its report to the Centre and final orders are expected at the earliest, he told the Legislative Council in a reply to a question by Mohammad Rafiq Shah (JKNPP).

In reply to another question, the Minister said that three sites for establishment of Central University in Kashmir have been proposed.

The central site selection committee has conducted inspection of the three sites of Tulamula, Khurhuma and Rakhi-Rabtar in the valley.

In reply to a supplementary, the Minister said no university campus has been established in Kupwara district.

However, a proposal to set up campuses in Kupwara and Kargil is under consideration of the government, he added.
