The Army on Wednesday said the Pakistan troops resorted to a ceasefire violation on the Line of Control (LoC) and killed two soldiers in Kupwara's Keran Sector in north Kashmir.
Srinagar-based army spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia told The Hindu that the two soldiers were killed in a firing incident around 2: 20 p.m.
Preliminary reports suggest that Pakistani forces fired from snipers at the pickets manning the LoC in Keran Sector, more than 100 km north of Srinagar.
This fresh incident of ceasefire violation comes just days after a couple was killed in Poonch. Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged fire for three days in the Pir Panchal valley.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, Poonch, Tariq Ahamed Zargar, on Tuesday reviewed the preparedness of evacuation and rehabilitation plans in view of escalation in shelling on LoC in the district. He had called for mock drills "for better preparedness to evacuee the people and handling the situations more effectively in case of any emergency like situations." Several safe rehabilitation sites and buildings have also been identified in Balakote, Mendhar , Mandi and Haveli areas.
