Darjeeling shutdown to continue as ‘all-party’ meeting rejects State government’s talks offer

An “all-party” meeting held in Darjeeling on Tuesday to discuss the Gorkhaland issue failed to offer any relief to the crisis in the hills. It was decided to continue with the indefinite shutdown, which has forced almost all the tourists to leave the town in West Bengal.

Justice Karnan arrested in Coimbatore by West Bengal police

Chennai The controversial Calcutta High Court Judge C.S. Karnan has been arrested in Coimbatore, by the West Bengal police. He has been evading arrest since May 10 after the Supreme Court sentenced him to six months imprisonment for contempt of court. Justice Karnan retired on June 12.

President to launch GST on midnight of June 30 in Parliament

Cabinet Secretary reviews and expresses satisfaction over GST readiness

The Cabinet Secretary on Tuesday conducted a detailed review of the preparedness for the roll out of the Goods and Services Tax regime from July 1, according to an official statement. “In a meeting attended by Secretaries of 30 ministries connected with GST, and video conferencing with about 167 PSUs under their administrative control, the Cabinet Secretary asked all involved to take full responsibility of their stakeholders, and for the successful implementation of the GST,” the statement said.
