Woman burnt alive in Nippani

A 35-year-old woman was burnt alive at the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee yard in Nippani of Belagavi district on Wednesday.

The woman was identified as Rajeshree Khot, a resident of Kagal of Kolhapur district of Maharashtra, about 20 km from Nippani. However, the police are yet to identify the accused.

After preliminary investigation, the police quoted a few eyewitnesses as saying that the woman was engaged in a heated discussion with two youth.

The eyewitnesses were caught unawares to see Rajashree, engulfed by fire, screaming for help. By the time people could go to her rescue, she collapsed and died on the spot.

The two youth sped away on a motorcycle.
