The district secured first place in the SSC results in the newly-formed Telangana State with a pass percentage of 91.6 per cent. Of the total 54,123 candidates, as many as 49,593 students passed with 288 of them securing 10 GPA points in the district.

A total of 27,425 boys appeared for the test, while 24,961 passed the SSC examination.

A total of 26,698 girls appeared for the examination and 24,632 passed the SSC.

The advanced supplementary examinations for the students would be held from June 18 to July 2.

Last in order

Adilabad Special Correspondent adds: Adilabad district performed dismally for the second consecutive year evident from the fact that it stood last in the order of districts. The pass percentage was a low 54.9 per cent about 1.5 percentage points lower than that registered last year when it stood last in the list of 23 districts in the then unified Andhra Pradesh.

Though the complete details of the results will be available only after a couple of days, the government schools seem to have performed below expectation. Only 20 students scored 10 points.

According to sources, the reasons for the pathetic performance were the change in the exam system, and teacher vacancies. Of the 36,900 students, who took the exam, only 22,269 students passed.

Medak stands at

third position

Sangareddy Staff Reporter adds: The Medak district secured third place in the State in the SSC results released on Sunday.

According to District Education Officer (DEO) A. Rajeswar Rao, 87 per cent of the students passed in the examination and the pass percentage is very much impressive compared with previous year.

As many as 36,603 students passed out of the total 42,085 students who appeared for the examination.

Some 18,013 boys passed out of the total 20,901 appeared for the examination fetching 86.18 pass per cent. Among girls, 18,590 passed against 21,184 appeared for examination with a pass percentage of 87.75 per cent.

Decline in performance

Karimnagar Special Correspondent adds: Dismal performance of the students in the SSC exams has been attributed to the change of conduct of examination pattern and the introduction of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) model of education in Karimnagar district.

The Karimnagar district, which secured the State first rank in the SSC pass percentage in 2011 and 2012 in the united AP, had now come down to sixth position in Telangana State.

The teachers’ union leader said that the decline in the pass percentage was due to introduction of a new syllabus and a new pattern of conduct of classes and examinations.

“The teachers were not empowered about the new system properly. The training to the teachers on CCE system was given in October after completion of four months of academic year, opined TRTF district president M. Prathap Reddy.

Deputy Education Officer K. Lingaiah said that the introduction of new CCE model of education proved tough for the government students. The Education Department authorities say that the government teachers were given more training than the private educational institutions, but the results were disappointing.

The government teachers were least bothered about the education of students and more concerned about their transfers and postings, they quipped.

Some of the teachers’ union leaders found fault with the introduction of performance tracking system by then Collector Smita Sabharwal in the Education Department.

The existing education system collapsed during the period with the introduction of new system wherein the teachers were forced to be busy enrolling the data into the computers neglecting their duties.

Even the authorities concerned were also worried about the computer data, but never made a visit to the schools for physical verification.

A government school headmaster said that there was no commitment among the teachers and they were simply collecting their salaries by neglecting their basic duties.

The government teachers have job security so they do not work and if the authorities take any action the unions come to their rescue, he pointed out.
