The Vemulawada temple town is reeling under acute water crisis due to the depletion of the ground water table in the region this summer season.

With the non-availability of water to be supplied through tap connections, the municipal authorities were forced to supply water to the residents through tankers by drawing water from agricultural wells in the adjoining villages.

The municipal officials are supplying water through 22 tankers every day to the residents, at the rate of one drum for every household. The tankers would come to the town during odd hours and fill the drums placed before the houses.

Even the Vemulawada devasthanam authorities were struggling for water for their cottages. Sometimes, the temple authorities were forced to deny accommodation to the devotees due to non-availability of adequate water. Presently, the authorities were managing the water requirements of the main temple shrine with available borewells.

But the authorities were unable to meet the demands of the growing pilgrims rush during this summer season.

The authorities have attributed the decline in the ground water table in the temple town to non-availability of water in the temple tank, which was used up for the beautification works. Besides, the authorities were unable to supply adequate water through taps due to leakages caused by the Mission Bhagiratha works.

Presently, the temple town was getting water from the Lower Manair Dam (LMD) reservoir in Karimnagar town, but it proved inadequate due to depletion of water table in the reservoir. Even the Karimnagar municipal authorities were planning to insert booster pumps to lift water from the reservoir due to low water level.

Vemulawada municipal authorities said that the water problem could be resolved with the lifting of water from the Mid Manair Dam (MMD) at a cost of ₹17 crore.

They said that they were laying new pipeline from Nampally hillocks water sump to use the MMD waters to the temple town residents.

They hoped that the completion of MMD pipeline works would completely solve water woes of the temple town forever.
