GHMC team to study heritage projects in Istanbul for CPP

A team of municipal officials would be shortly be sent to Istanbul, Turkey, to study the integration, synergy of architecture, heritage pedestrianisation, transport and tourism, especially to help complete the work on the ongoing ₹35-crore Charminar Pedestrian Project (CPP), said Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration & Urban Development (MA & UD) Arvind Kumar, on Friday.

Inspecting the works with senior officials, he said changes would be brought in Laad Bazar under Phase-1 and pointed out that the public sector entity, NTPC, has sanctioned ₹9 crore for the project.

The Minister for Municipal Administration, K.T. Rama Rao, was very keen to expedite the works and ordered the removal of flexies, banners and hoardings of various nature on priority basis, in the vicinity.

Modern street lights would be set up in and around the project area, and the open manholes would be covered. Shops and trade outlets should have uniform display boards with a heritage background to safeguard the historic monuments in Old City, a press release said.
