The Government of Telangana has decided to conduct a survey of tanks and mapping of Hyderabad using latest technology such as Geographical Information System (GIS) and Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR).
The survey of about 10 to 15 tanks in and around Hyderabad will be taken up initially on pilot basis and it will be extended to Mission Kakatiya and Water Grid programmes later. A few tanks in Bhongir, Alair, Mungode and Medchal mandals will be surveyed on a pilot basis.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao instructed officials concerned to utilise the technology to survey rivers and rivulets and for identifying sites for check-dams. Interacting with Sajid Malik, Managing Director of Genesys International Corporation Limited engaged in mapping and survey services and its vice-president S.D. Tripathi here on Thursday, the Chief Minister said Hyderabad was one of the oldest cities of the world like Istanbul and it needed to be developed without disturbing the existing plan.
Stating that Hyderabad would grow multi-fold, with the population likely to cross 2 crore in the near future, he said a lot of re-engineering and re-working on the city had to be done.
