The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has shot back strongly at Congress leaders who had blamed the State government for farmers’ suicides and termed their talk on problems of farmers, including power crisis, as “killers holding condolence meetings”.
In a strongly-worded open letter to the Congress leaders, who were at their critical best against the government at a dharna staged on Monday, Minister for Panchayat Raj K.T. Rama Rao said that they forgot about their decades of sins soon after the role change from the ruling party to Opposition. “They may have such a habit, but people won’t forget their misdeeds and misrule so early,” he noted.
Mr. Rama Rao sought to know whether it was not D.K. Aruna who performed the ‘pooja’ for the illegal irrigation project Handri-Neeva. He likened the Congress leaders to modern ‘Dritharashtras’ who acted blind when their government had reduced the minimum water drawl level in the Srisailam reservoir.
Stating that S. Jaipal Reddy’s defeat was the result of his lack of foresight who did not even grant one gigajoule of natural gas to Telangana when he held the portfolio of Petroleum Minister, the TRS leader noted that by defeating him, people proved that it was not accidental. He questioned the Congress leaders on how they could attribute their four decades of collective failure in making Telangana a power surplus area to the four-month-old TRS rule.
He alleged that it was “Ponnala and Co” who had cow-towed late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy to benefit Seemandhra areas by betraying Telangana, in terms of irrigation facilities. Further, he reminded the Congress leaders that it was they who had supported the expansion of water drawl capacity of Pothireddypadu head regulator and construction of Pulichintala project against the interests of Telangana.
The TRS leader said the Congress had re-written the record of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) that shot dead three persons in the movement on power at Basheerbagh. Their sympathy towards the farming community was like shedding crocodile tears, Mr. Rama Rao said and suggested them to act as a responsible Opposition party.
