Owing to preoccupation, Chief Minister and Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K. Chandrasekhar Rao is unlikely to finalise party candidates for Rajya Sabha elections due next month, to fill three vacancies from Telangana till March 5. He has a busy schedule till then.
He will address regional conferences of farmers’ coordination committees in Hyderabad and Karimnagar, visit Adilabad and then review the functioning of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited, sources said.
Nevertheless, speculation is rife that Mr. Rao’s nephew and TRS general secretary J. Santosh Kumar might be nominated to one of the seats. Mr. Rao has already announced the candidature of a member of the Yadava community with the name of sheep and goat development corporation chairman K. Rajaiah Yadav doing the rounds. The third seat is likely to go to the Reddy community which, if materialised, might spring a surprise.
It was rumoured that Home Minister Nayini Narasimha Reddy would be sent to the Rajya Sabha and Deputy Speaker M. Padma Devender Reddy would replace him.
In that case, the impression that the presence of a woman in the Cabinet was missing could be erased, sources said.
