Of the dozen odd multi-level parking complexes to be constructed across the Hyderabad Metro Rail corridors in the twin cities, tenders will soon be invited for the one proposed at the Nampally metro station.
The announcement was made by Minister for IT & Municipal Administration K.T. Rama Rao on Tuesday after he urged metro rail authorities to expedite the construction of multi-level parking complexes as well as toilets at all stations, especially for women.
At a meeting with metro rail and municipal officials at the Metro Rail Bhavan, the Minister also asked them to take steps to improve the frequency of the metro trains between the opened first phase sections of Nagole-Ameerpet-Miyapur (30-km stretch), which are currently being run every eight to 15 minutes in either section.
‘Introduce monthly pass’
More facilities for metro rail commuters in the form of monthly passes should be introduced while also exploring the possibility of introducing electric buses through Setwin, he said.
The proposed routes for the metro phase two, stations location, funding and connectivity to the international airport at Shamshabad was also discussed during the meeting attended by the Principal Secretary (MA & UD) Arvind Kumar and HMR MD N.V.S. Reddy.
Mr. Reddy explained to KTR that occupancy for the metro rail here was much better in comparison to other metros like Chennai which have been running the system for the last two years.
Soon, the frequency as well as speed of the trains would be increased to reduce the travel time in the first phase, which became operational in November last year.
The metro rail system was also functioning smoothly and work was progressing well in the other corridors, he added.
