Telangana doctors for cyclone-hit areas

October 19, 2014 09:19 am | Updated May 23, 2016 04:09 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

With the impending danger of an epidemic looming large, Telangana doctors have volunteered to serve in cyclone Hudhud ravaged regions of coastal Andhra Pradesh.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) - Telangana chapter, has decided to send doctors, medicines as well as donations to help restore normalcy in Visakhapatnam and the surrounding areas.

“We received an appeal from the IMA members in AP for help and we have immediately responded to it,” informed K. Sudhakar Reddy, chairman, Telangana ad hoc committee, IMA, at a press meet held on Saturday.

“In cyclone affected regions, usually there are high chances of diseases spreading. There can be an epidemic due to unhygienic food, lack of quality water or the sudden environmental changes. It is very important to prevent the epidemic, otherwise there might be widespread viral or gastroenteritis cases.”
