The Telangana Government plans to surpass Gujarat in terms of development and people's welfare four years from now, Minister for Roads & Buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao has said.
Programmes such as water grid and Mission Kakatiya will change the face of Telangana after four to five years and the opposition parties, particularly Congress, would be nowhere near Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) once such flagship programmes were completed, the minister said addressing a press conference after a review meeting here on Monday.
"The Congress is worried as to what its fate will be once Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao's plans for welfare and development of the State were implemented fully", Mr. Nageswara Rao said adding that the Congress leaders were resorting to baseless criticism against the Government purely out of fear about their future. He exuded confidence that the TRS would prove its mettle in the GHMC elections.
On the development of roads including repair works, the Minister said that the process of tenders would be completed by June. Works with an estimated cost of another Rs.1,000 crore were also given sanction recently. He stated that works on four-lane road to Nizamabad and Khammam District headquarters would be taken up soon.
He asked people to complain to the authorities on finding tractors with cage wheels on roads. Mr. Nageswara Rao stated that the State Government was in constant touch with the Centre on upgrading roads as national highways, developing inland waterways on Godavari and development of a dry port in the State. A proposal would be sent to the Centre on developing a dry port after holding a meeting with the departments concerned soon.
He mentioned that Union Surface Transport and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari had assured the State of including Godavari river in the inald waterways project in the next session of Parliament. On the plans to develop new airports at Warangal and Kothagudem, the Minister said that he would meet the Union Civil Aviation Minister P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju with the proposals.
About roads and other construction works taken up for Godavari Pushkaralu the Minister said that 37 works with an investment of Rs. 250 crore were taken up in five districts and 36 works had already been grounded. The bathing ghats would be constructed spaciously to accommodate the rush of pilgrims.
