Telugu Desam Party district president K. Satyanarayana has alleged that there were large-scale irregularities in the purchase of Bathukamma sarees from Surat in Gujarat by the TRS Government. He charged the Government with engineering a big scam in the purchase of sarees. The Government had promised to purchase sarees weaved by the powerloom weavers of Sircilla textile town, but purchased cheap sarees costing not more than ₹50 a saree and distributed to the womenfolk, he alleged.

The Mahila Congress leaders set fire to an effigy of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in front of Collectorate here on Tuesday for distributing cheap quality sarees.
