The fast developing district headquarters comprising tri-cities – Warangal, Hanamkonda and Kazipet will soon have a monorail facility covering a stretch of 12 kilometres.
Officials from Intamin Transportation, Switzerland visited Warangal and took a tour of the city to study the feasibility for the monorail track. Intamin Transportation is running monorail in 30 nations across the world. Mayor Nannapuneni Narender and other district officials accompanied them.
According to Mayor, a team of experts visited Warangal three months ago and prepared the proposals for construction of the monorail.
Project execution
They estimated the cost of the project at ₹1,200 crore. It will be executed in about 10 to 12 months. The proposal also says there is no issue of land acquisition as the beams required for the monorail could be constructed on the medians of the main highway. Pre-fabricated technology could also be used in the construction.
Vice-presidents of Intamin Transportation Gerard Slenders and Franz Zurcher along with president of Global Spectrum, Tika Mustafa Hasan went round the tri-cities. They inspected the area along which the monorail would traverse. They enquired about the floating population in the city among other things. They assured the Government of giving complete support to the project.
Mr. Narender said IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao, during his recent visit to Switzerland, had met the officials of Intamin Transportation and discussed the possibility of the Monorail in Warangal. He said the monorail would create ease of transport in the city.
“The team from Switzerland will meet the Minister again in a couple of days and a final decision would be taken,” he said.
President of Global Spectrum Tika Mustafa Hasan said the project would be handed over within 18 months of signing the MoU. He said Warangal has all the facilities required for construction of Monorail.
