Students of all social welfare residential schools and hostels, government and Zilla Parishad schools and inmates of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBV) will be provided superfine quality rice as part of their meals from January 1, 2015 onwards.

At a meeting on Thursday, Collector M. Veerabrahmaiah said that the students of 309 residential hostels and 3,049 schools would benefit from the initiative. Instructing the authorities concerned, including the hostel wardens and headmasters, to ensure that nutritious food was served to students, he also warned of stern action if the superfine rice meant for students was diverted or siphoned off.

Stating that officials would conduct surprise inspections to ensure proper distribution of food to children, he said that they would reward officials for effective implementation of the scheme. Similarly, he also instructed the authorities to ensure cent per cent pass percentage in the SSC examinations. He directed the teachers to conduct special classes for students of class ten so that they could excel in the examinations. Joint Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed, DSO Chandra Prakash, DEO K. Lingaiah, RVM PO B. Rajamouli and others were present.
