‘Steps taken to prevent swine flu’

Adilabad Collector M. Jagan Mohan on Monday allayed fears of the general public that swine flu is spreading at an alarming rate. He said the government has initiated necessary steps, including awareness programme to control the spread of the disease.

Unfurling the national tricolour at the 66th Republic Day celebrations here, the Collector said no case of swine flu has been recorded in the district so far. He said all the hospitals in the district have sufficient stock of medicines for the disease.

With regard to developments in the power supply area, Mr. Jagan Mohan said 13 new power sub-stations have been added to the existing 139 33/11 KV sub-stations thereby improving supply.

He said the centres have been constructed at a cost of Rs.13 crore.

Earlier, the Collector was received by Superintendent of Police Tarun Joshi and inspected the ceremonial parade by Armed Reserve policemen, NCC cadets and Scouts and Guides. He also gave away appreciation certificates for meritorious service to 496 officials, including 89 police officers and constables.

Mr. Jagan Mohan also distributed assets to beneficiaries of various departments, including Social and Tribal welfare. The cultural programmes presented by students featured a few folk dances of Adivasis in the district.

Warangal Special Correspondent adds: The Republic Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour and gaiety across the district here on Monday.

At the main function held at the Police Parade Grounds, Collector Vakati Karuna hoisted the national flag and greeted people.

Children from various schools presented colourful cultural programmes on the occasion.

She listed out the priorities of the State government and urged people to make use of the welfare programmes and empower themselves.

Superintendent of Police A.K. Jha and other officials were present.

NIT Director T. Srinivasa Rao unfurled the tricolour on its premises and at Kakatiya University Registrar M.V. Ranga Rao hoisted the national flag. At the Arts college, Principal V.V.S. Sharma unfurled the flag.

He exhorted the students to strive hard and make the country proud.

At the District Congress Committee Bhavan, president N. Rajender Reddy unfurled the national flag and recalled the contributions made by the party before and after Indian independence.

At the Hanamkonda bus stand, RTC Regional Manager E.Yadagiri hoisted the national flag. He wanted the employees to put in their best and help the corporation grow. He also listed out the employee welfare programmes of the RTC.
