Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao has expressed serious concern over slow progress of Mission Kakatiya (MK) works and warned that the contractors who were not performing would be blacklisted.

Holding a video conference with mandal-level officials and public representatives from Sangareddy Collectorate on Tuesday along with Deputy Speaker M Padma Devender Reddy, Mr. Harish Rao said that special officers for the tanks should be appointed to speed up the works. Stating that one or two tanks would be entrusted to those officials, he said that they would be have to coordinate with the contractor.

“We have to complete the remaining works before commencement of rainy season which is only a month away. Only 100 works out of the total 1,679 works sanctioned were completed and the progress was not satisfactory. The engineers responsible for this should explain the reasons for the delay,” said Mr Harish Rao while addressing the officials.

Referring to soak pits, the Minister said that there was no dearth of funds for the construction of soak pits and they would help in replenishing the groundwater.

“The public representatives and officials should set an example by constructing soak pits at their houses and offices. This need to be taken up on a war footing,” he said adding that the best mandal would be awarded Rs. 10 lakh followed by Rs. 5 lakh for the second best and Rs. 1 lakh for the third best.

Stating that there are numerous complaints against non- payment of money for the work done under NREGS, the Minister said that there no was scarcity of funds for providing works as funds were already released by the Union Government. “Provide drinking water to the people and we do not want to have any complaints in this regard,” he said.
