The State Government has resolved to raise the second tranche of funds required for expeditious completion of Mission Bhagiratha through banks to fulfil its commitment of providing safe drinking water to every household by the end of the year.

The government has accordingly decided to raise ₹ 6,000 crore more that will enable completion of works within the stipulated deadline.

The government had initially secured ₹ 5,000 crore for the project works of which are in different stages of completion. The State Cabinet which met here on Monday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is understood to have detailed deliberations on the issue.

‘Come well prepared’

During the marathon meeting of more than five hours, the Council of Ministers discussed on the way in which the government’s achievements should be taken to people with Assembly as the platform. The Chief Minister directed his Cabinet colleagues to come well prepared for the session that could be in sitting for around two weeks so that effective replies are provided to the queries raised by the Opposition benches.

The State Cabinet has discussed about introduction of eight legislations, including amendments to Panchayat Raj Act, Pattadar Passbooks Act, Preventive Detention Act, Gaming Act, Shops and Establishments Act and the amendments made to Excise Act ahead of the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax regime. The government had issued ordinances on these amendments in the last few months as the House was not in session.

Private Universities Bill

In addition, it was proposed to introduce the Private Universities Bill and a Bill giving legal sanctity to the Road Development Corporation constituted by the government recently. Continuing the announcements on recruitments to government jobs, the Cabinet is understood to have approved 800 posts to NIMS at Bibinagar and recruitment for another 850 posts in the Health department.

Over 300 more jobs were proposed to be created by the upgradation of five Primary Healthcare Centres. The Cabinet reportedly gave its consent to files relating to the jobs notified by different departments brought before it by the Finance Department.

Land record purification

The Ministers had discussed the progress of the land record purification and updation programme and the Chief Minister is reported to have expressed his happiness over the brisk pace at which the programme is under way.

The Cabinet also reviewed the status of land acquisition for major irrigation projects taken up by the government.
