Facelift: The ongoing road widening work in Sangareddy town.

For the first time in six decades, Sangareddy town is going to get a facelift.

The six-kilometre Pothireddypally crossroads to Mahabubsagar stretch is one of the primary roads of the town. Though the road was slightly widened from the Pothireddypally crossroads to the ITI junction, from there the road becomes narrow all the way to the office of the Superintendent of Police located about two kilometres away.

Funds to the tune of ₹8.79 crore were allocated to widen the road.

This road connects to Nanded and Akola from the Mumbai highway, and with the plan, at least small vehicles would navigate the road round the clock though heavy vehicles are allowed only during the night.

Not on par

“Sangareddy has been the district headquarters for several decades, but it has not been developed as such. It has, in fact, been developed on the lines of mandal headquarters but never on par with other district headquarters,” said Sangareddy MLA Chinta Prabhakar.

Now, the main road would be widened to a six-lane road. Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao, MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy and Mr. Chinta Prabhakar had laid the foundation stone for the same last month.

The road would have drains at both ends of the road, footpath, butterfly lights, and plants on the divider.

Officials of the Hyderabad Metro Development Authority (HMDA) were directed to call for tenders. The engineering wing was asked to complete the work in six months.

The road from Miyapur to Sangareddy would be developed too.

“We will change the face of Sangareddy for the better and show what development really is. It will wear a completely new look in the next six months,” Mr. Rao had said while laying the foundation stone.
