Rich tributes paid to Jyotirao Phule

The 189th birth anniversary of social reformer Mahatma Jyotirao Phule was celebrated grandly in Karimnagar on Saturday. Minister for Finance and Civil Supplies Etala Rajender garlanded the statue of the social reformer. Speaking on the occasion, he said that he would take all measures for the construction of Phule Bhavan in Karimnagar. He stressed on the need to do away with the caste system for the progress of the country.

garlanded the statue of Phule and paid tributes.

“Fulfil Phule’s aspirations”

Adilabad Special Correspondent adds: Rich tributes were paid to the social reformer in Adilabad. Boath MLA Rathod Bapu Rao who was the chief guest gave a call to people to make efforts to fulfil the aspirations of Phule. He said as per the aspirations of the social reformer, every individual should get education to usher in social equality. Joint Collector Sunder Abnar and others attended the programme. Earlier, the MLA and others had garlanded a portrait of Phule at Bhuktapur.

He felt that only education can change the fate of people adding that he would sanction Rs. 10 lakh to establish a study circle in the name of Phule. said that it was Jyothiba who had played an exemplary role to bring about changes in the age old feudal society by starting literacy campaign for women. He began the campaign by educating his wife Savithri Bai Phule against all odds some 175 years ago. By championing the cause of women and advocating social reforms he had become the Mahatma even earlier to the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi, they said.

Inaugurating the Phule jayanti celebrations Collector D. Ronald Ross called asked the educated lot to encourage education among girls at least up to degree level. He said that the government was committed to encouraging girls to pursue higher education by setting up residential degree colleges.

He said that a suitable site has been identified to install the statue of Mahatma Phule in the town. The statues of great persons if installed would always remind their great works to people, he added.

The Collector said that the administration aimed at imparting best training in the trades of their choices to youth to enable them to set up their self-employment units.

MLC V. Gangadhar Goud said that Phule had fought against superstitions persisting the society those days. He appealed to the Collector to allot the land for the construction of BC Bhavan in the district.

Superintendent of Police S. Chandrashekar Reddy said that Phule was a great social reformer of the 19th Century. He said the police department would make efforts to remove superstitions and encourage women to study.

Jukkal MLA Hanmanthu Shinde, Mayor Akula Sujatha, ZP Chairman Dafedar Raju and Joint Collector A. Chandrashekar Reddy also spoke.

Study circles promised

Nalgonda Staff Reporter adds: The birth anniversary of Jyotirao Phule was celebrated across the district in a grand manner here on Saturday.

Speaking at a meeting organised in Nalgonda, Energy Minister G. Jagadishwar Reddy, said that they would fulfil all the promises made during the election campaign on the welfare of backward classes. The Minister said that they would establish study circles at all the districts head quarters.

Mr.Reddy, Superintend of Police, Vikramjit Duggal, Joint Collector N.Satyanarayana and others have garlanded the Statue of Phule marking his birth anniversary.
