The YSR Congress has alleged that the TDP government is acquiring more land than what is required for capital city with an aim to enable a select few make huge profits while ignoring interests of farmers at large.

YSRC spokesperson Ambati Rambabu said here on Sunday that the State government appeared to be planning to do real estate business with the farmers’ lands as it was all set acquire 5,000 acres through auction and to yield about Rs. 75,000 crore by disposing it of later.

The benefit from the land deals should go to farmers who had volunteered to part with their land, he said.

He said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had been repeatedly talking that construction of the new capital for Andhra Pradesh would require Rs. 5 lakh crore, ever since the Congress Working Committee took a decision for division of the State. He had also been insisting that that the Centre should share the burden for constructing the new capital.

“He makes no such mention now and has made no attempts to get Central funds for the capital city”, the YSR Congress leader said adding that the realtors close to the TDP leadership were planning to make big returns with the land deals instead of the farmers getting benefited.

Mr. Rambabu demanded that the government review its decision of acquiring large extent of land for capital.
