The revenue officer of Mulug Ghanpur, Kanakaraju, was manhandled by residents of Gandhi Nagar village when he visited the place to survey government lands on Monday.

Mulug Revenue Divisional Officer Motilal and Deputy Superintendent of Police Muralidhar rushed to the spot on learning about the incident.

According to the police, the villagers were enraged at the eviction notice issued by the revenue officials a few days ago stating that they had to vacate since the land belongs to the government. About 200 families reside on the land.

Following the State government’s directives, tehsildar Kanakaraju went to the spot to carry out the survey and make an inventory of government land. On Monday, the tehsildar and a team of officials again visited the spot to conduct survey. The villagers staged a demonstration and blocked Bhupalpally - Parkal road at Gandhi Nagar junction.

On seeing the tehsildar, the residents manhandled him.

Sub-Inspector of Police Ravi Kumar rushed to spot and brought the situation under control.

Cases were registered against some residents.
