Minister K. Taraka Rama Rao makes whirlwind tour planting saplings

A record number of 7 lakh saplings were planted on a single day on Thursday in the Sircilla Assembly segment represented by Minister for IT and Municipal Administration K. Taraka Rama Rao as part of the Haritha Haram programme in Karimnagar district.

The Minister conducted a whirlwind tour of various mandals to participate in the plantation of saplings. He launched the programme from Jillela village in Sircilla and participated in similar programmes in Nerella, Shantinagar bypass road, Sircilla court premises and Pedduru in Sircilla mandal; Dumala, Almaspur, Garjanapalli and Banda Lingampalli village of Yellareddypet mandal; Ramreddypalli in Mustabad mandal, and Lingannapet in Gambhiraopet mandal.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rama Rao said the government took up the ambitious programme to increase forest coverage from the existing 24 per cent to 33 per cent. He said that in Sircilla assembly segment they have decided to plant 28 lakh saplings. The government has decided to plant a total of 46 crore saplings across the State during this year.

The IT Minister said last year they planted 18 crore saplings, but they could not survive due to drought.

He said that this time they would protect the saplings by providing water through tankers and also use drip irrigation systems too.

He called upon people to nurture the saplings like children for the betterment of tomorrow. Telangana State Cooperative Bank (TSCOB) chairman K. Ravinder Rao, Collector Neetu Prasad, Joint Collector Sri Devasena, RDO Shyamprasad Lal, and others were also present.
