The rainfall in the shape of a drizzle continued in Adilabad for the second successive day helping recharge of ground water level in the process.

Though coal production has been hit in the open cast coal mines in the coal belt area of the district, normal life remained pretty much unaffected.

The cumulative average rainfall recorded so far during the monsoon season was 24 per cent in excess of normal but there were no major inflows into the 13 medium irrigation projects in the district. Only Wankidi stream was in spate on Saturday while all other such water bodies had water flowing much below the danger mark.

The Kumram Bheem project in Asifabad mandal received over 950 cusecs of inflows, taking the water level in its reservoir to 239 mtr against a full reservoir level of 243 mtr. The Kadem dam received only about 400 cusecs of water though the inflows seemed to have increased as the day progressed owing to rainfall in the catchment area.

As water started flowing in the hill streams, all the seasonal waterfalls came alive with the famous Kuntala and Pochera waterfalls attracting visitors on the weekend. The beautiful small waterfall near Koratikal (B) village also saw good flow and made for a pleasant sight.

Agricultural operations were hit across the district as labourers could not enter the rain soaked fields. The rainfall has resulted in rapid growth of weeds, which need to be removed in quick time.

Warangal Special Correspondent writes:

Rain did not hold much promise to farmers in the district as the first spell of rain in the last month did not last long.

There was copious rain last month and several streams and rivulets were flooded bringing cheers to farmers. The mandals with forest cover such as Eturunagaram, Tadvai and Mangapet mandal witnessed good amount of rain. The rest of the mandals did not witness rain as expected and agricultural operations slowed down.

Ch Sudhakar of Ramaram village in Rayaparthi mandal said they have very small tank in the village, which did not witness any inflows this season so far. “We are waiting for a good rain this season,” he says.

As per records, there were only two rainy days this month. As against the normal rainfall of 64.8 mm., there was only 61.3 mm rainfall, a deviation of minus 5.4 mm.

The district had only 19 rainy days from June 1 till date. In the last two days, only two mandals received 20 mm rainfall.

Karimnagar Special Correspondent writes:

The continuous drizzle boosted the moral of people to take up plantation of saplings under Haritha Haram programme with more enthusiasm in Karimnagar district on Saturday.

Braving continuous rain, Minister for Finance and Civil Supplies Etala Rajender, Peddapalli MLA D. Manohar Reddy, Collector Neetu Prasad and several villagers participated in the programme in Kunaram village of Kalwa Srirampur mandal.

People carrying umbrellas participated in the plantation of the saplings.

The Minister appreciated the villagers for actively participating in the noble cause.

Though rain disrupted normal life in the urban areas forcing the people to remain indoors, it bought much sought after relief to the farming community, who were reeling under acute drought conditions for two consecutive years, with the intensification of the farm operations in entire district on Saturday.
