Police, villagers join hands to revive tank

May 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:56 am IST - KHAMMAM:

The Kothagudem sub-division police have joined hands with the villagers of Sujathanagar to give a new lease of life to the Chelimalakunta cheruvu, an old tank spread in around 13 acres under Sujathanagar gram panchayat in Kothagudem division.

The move comes close on the heels of a similar initiative undertaken by the Konijerla police, who reportedly adopted a tank for restoration under the Mission Kakatiya programme at Ammapalem in Konijerla mandal a few days ago. The Chelimalakunta tank has an irrigation potential of 70 acres.

SP Shahnawaz Qasim and Kothagudem OSD Joel Davis participated in sramadanam organised by the police at the Chelimalakunta cheruvu on Wednesday, marking the formal launch of the tank restoration works.

Sujathanagar sarpanch Lakshmi, and Irrigation Superintending Engineer V. Sudhakar were present.
