Police on alert in view of ‘Maoist Martyrs Week’

July 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - KHAMMAM:

Security in the tribal sub-plan mandals of Bhadrachalam division sharing a long border with the strife-ridden areas of the neighbouring Chhattisgarh has been tightened in view of the Maoists’ ‘Martyrs Week’ slated for July 28-August 3.

A large number of police personnel from Bhadrachalam division participated in the bandobust arrangements for the 12-day Godavari Pushkaralu, which concluded in the temple town of Bhadrachalam and elsewhere in the division on Saturday. Almost all of them returned to their respective police stations on Sunday, sources said.

In addition to the regular police personnel, additional forces are also being deployed in and around the vital installations such as cell phone towers in Charla, Dummugudem and Venkatapuram mandals as a safety precaution, sources added. Vigil has been stepped up in the interior areas along the border with both the Chhattisgarh and AP to prevent possible attempts by the rebels to construct makeshift memorials in the forest fringe areas in Bhadrachalam division.
