Plastic banned in GWMC office

To encourage sustainable environmental practices

The Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation has banned the usage of plastic material in all its offices.

A circular regarding this issue was released by GWMC Commissioner V. P. Goutham. The Municipal and Urban development minister K.T. Rama Rao, during a recent review meeting, advised all the ULBs (urban local bodies) to set an example by avoiding the use of plastic in their offices.

Commissioner Mr. Gautham said the GWMC officials were instructed to stop using bottled water and other such plastic items immediately and instead go for environment-friendly material including steel and ceramic glasses.

Further it is also notified that no office shall be found to be in use or possession of plastic bags below 50 microns as mandated in municipal solid waste management rules 2016.

They were also asked to follow dust bin system and dispose the plastic waste strictly in compliance with solid waste management rules, 2000 and guidelines of central pollution control board towards plastic disposal.

Mr. V. P. Goutham said all the HoDs and wing officers need to put 100 % effort in creating awareness among all stakeholders on the harm caused to the environment by use of plastic and hence promote sustainable environmental practices.
