People flock to Sriramsagar project

Collector Yogitha Rana directed the police officials to increase security at the Sriramsagar Project and its surrounding areas to avoid any untoward incident in view a large number of people visiting the place in the wake of water reaching the full reservoir level.

The Collector who visited the dam on Sunday said that the two-year drought would come to an end and farmers would find solace with all the medium and major irrigation projects in the district having copious water.

Owing to the forecast for heavy rain till September 27, the administrative machinery is geared up to meet any eventualities and relief and rehabilitations camps were opened.

At present 2.46 lakh cusecs of water is joining the SRSP and 4.15 lakh cusecs is being discharged by lifting all the 42 crest gates.

Ms. Rana said that though the reservoir contains 85 tmcf as against its full capacity of 90.31 tmcf full reservoir level, 1091 ft would be maintained while monitoring and regulating flood position.

Health camps were opened in 15 villages which are prone to the flood and six lakh Chlorin tablets were supplied to panchayats to purify drinking water, she said.

Joint Collector A. Ravinder Reddy, Sriramsagar Project Superintending Engineer Satyanarayana, Executive Engineer Rama Rao and others were present on the occasion.
