The Karimnagar Commissionerate of Police was committed to ensuring peace and security in the district, said Commissioner of Police V.B. Kamalasan Reddy.

“We want to make sure that anti-social elements are eliminated in the newly-formed police commissionerate and ensure all sections of people live peacefully,” he said.

Talking to The Hindu here on Thursday, he said their priority was ensuring people’s security. Accordingly, the police have been continuing their drive against drunken-driving, consumption of liquor in open spaces, continuous patrol in the entire district with the deployment of Blue Colts at all the police stations, cordon and search operations, drive against ghutka and matka, night patrolling and other measures, he said.

“We are utilising technology to the maximum extent in detection and prevention of crime,” he said, and added that they continued the process of installing CCTV surveillance cameras in the entire district by involving general public. He said there was a good response for the Hawk Eye mobile app as over 20,000 people have already downloaded it and using the same, while the police have set a target of making it reach at least 50,000 people.

With regard to bringing attitudinal change among the police personnel, he said they were constantly conducting training programmes for all those manning the police stations, including the writers. “We have been educating them that we are only the servants of the people and get salary because of taxpayers,” he said.

On the prevailing traffic issues, he said they have informed the district authorities to reduce the size of traffic islands for the smooth movement of traffic. “Even the students of NIT Warangal are conducting a survey on this and are in touch with the authorities. They have suggested the officials to install traffic signals at all the junctions in the town,” he added.

He said they would introduce the e-challan system once the traffic signals were installed. He also said they were taking measures to strengthen the CLUES team in the district by providing them with adequate equipments.
