hief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said here on Monday that a formal agreement on the construction of a barrage across the Godavri at Medigadda in Karimnagar district as part of the Kaleshwaram irrigation project would be entered into with Maharashtra soon. Talking to newsmen after laying the foundation stone for Kaleshwaram project, Mr. Rao said he had taken up ground-breaking ceremony for the prestigious project early as there was no auspicious time in the coming months. A formal agreement on the project would be made with the Maharashtra by inviting Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to Hyderabad, Mr Rao said.

“We have offered to the Maharashtra Government that they could utilise water from Kaleshwaram project for about one-lakh acres in Sironcha region”, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao said adding that the agreement would be entered into with Maharashtra at the earliest. “Even if the Medigadda barrage is not completed, water can be lifted from Kannepalli pump-house within 15 to 16 months”, he said exuding confidence.

Ridiculing the Congress party for having different stands on irrigation projects in different regions, the Chief Minister said Telangana region was allocated 950 TMC ft water in Godavari river when it was part of combined Andhra Pradesh. He criticised the Congress party leaders of Maharashtra for staging a protest against the project.
