Opposition parties put up a united fight

day after they were suspended from the Telangana Legislature for the rest of the Monsoon session, elected representatives of Congress party led by N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and including Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and D.K. Aruna launched yet another edition of the ‘Rythu Bharosa Yatra’ from Kamaluddinpur village in Ghanapur mandal of Mahabubnagar district.

This ‘yatra’ was hastily-put-together, to tell people ‘how the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government is back-tracking on its promises’ and sought to step up pressure on the government to commit itself on when and how it would go about for ‘full and final’ settlement of the much-talked-about farm loan waiver. The other demand is revoking the suspension of the Opposition members.

“If there is no announcement by October 9, we will enforce a bandh on Oct. 10 and expose the TRS before the people,” warned the MLAs, after meeting some families whose members committed suicide unable to bear the debt burden, in the village that falls under Wanaparthy Assembly constituency, where G. Chinna Reddy is the sitting MLA. They also held an impromptu public meeting in the village.

In unison, they slammed the ruling party for trying to stifle the voice of the Opposition and warned that such strong-arm tactics would, while not last long, also ‘expose the dictatorial attitude of the TRS’ in the eyes of the public. What could be more important to discuss in the Legislature than the farm sector crisis?, they asked, fuming.

Among others who participated in the yatra were party’s Leader of Opposition in the Council Mohd. Ali Shabbir and former Pradesh Congress Committee President Ponnala Lakshmaiah.
