Opposition members protest before Speaker

Members of the Opposition parties including the Congress and Telugu Desam called on the Speaker S. Madhusudana Chary in his Chambers and expressed their strong protest at the way violence was perpetrated on some members in the House even as Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan was delivering his address to the Legislature on Saturday.

First the Congress members went to the Speaker and said the incidents in the House today were unprecedented and never-seen-before. They expressed their indignation at the way things had gotten out of hand in the House and regretted that it had happened while Mr. Narasimhan was giving his address.

The Telugu Desam members including Floor Leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao and A. Revanth Reddy said as members they had a right to protest inside the House.

“While the Marshals restrained us on one hand, it was inhuman the way they opened up the cordon to facilitate the Treasury benches to pounce upon us, physically. Until we get an unconditional apology and until action is taken on defectors in tune with the Legislature Rules, we will not let the House run,” Mr. Rao and Mr. Reddy fumed.

When the Telugu Desam members went inside the Speaker’s Chambers, they were said to have squatted on the floor before Mr. Madhusudana Chary’s table for a while before they were persuaded otherwise.
