December 30, 2014 12:28 am | Updated 12:28 am IST - NIZAMABAD:

Overall crime including assault, property offences and thefts, by and large has come down, while the road accidents and resultant deaths have still been alarmingly high in the district during the current year when compared to previous year.

Disclosing the crime analysis report of the current year from January 1 till date, at a press conference here on Monday, Superintendent of Police S. Chandrasekhar Reddy, said that as many as 1,134 criminal incidents including murders, attempt to murders, culpable homicides, rioting, kidnapping, rapes and injuries occurred this year as against 1,271 last year.

Similarly, there was a remarkable decrease in property offences compared to previous year.

A total of 1,131 offences took place as against 1,564 last year. However, the value of property stolen and recovered was Rs 4.42 lakh and Rs.1.87 lakh respectively registering the 43 percentage of recovery as against Rs.4.49 lakh and Rs.2.29 lakh and 51 per cent last year.

Though the number of road accidents and deaths slightly decreased the number of injured has been high with a record of 1,809. When compared to 2012 fatal accidents the number increased alarmingly this year. In 544 road mishap cases 602 persons died as it was 562 and 612 respectively during 2013, said he.

Focus on road safety

Attributing drunken and negligent driving to the increase in road accidents Mr. Chandrasekhar Reddy said that the police would focus more attention on road safety by allotting more number of vehicles for patrolling henceforth. At present there were just three vehicles patrolling on the NH-44 and three more would be added to them. So also, highway patrolling would be intensified on NH-63 and on the SNA [Sangareddy-Nanded-Akhola] highway passing through the district, he said.

Expressing satisfaction on the law and order situation, he said that absolutely there was no movement of Maoists in the district which was infested by naxalite activity once.

Though there was a sign of decrease in offences against women the police would sternly deal with the offenders by registering cases under the Nirbhaya Act, he said.
