‘New State lacks capable leadership’

May 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - WARANGAL:

BJP MLA N.V.S.S. Prabhakar has said that the State government is not coming forward to utilise opportunities extended by the Central government, much to the dismay of the people of Telangana.

Following the request by State BJP leaders, the Centre sanctioned AIIMS for Telangana but so far, the State government has not acted on it.

Similarly, the Centre sanctioned a Horticulture University, which the State government did not follow up on. We are surprised that there has been no response from the State government so far, the BJP MLA said.

Mr. Prabhakar and party general secretary G. Premender Reddy said the State lacked competitive leadership and comprehensive planning on development. Nothing seems to be moving in the new State. Farmers too remain distressed and have been relegated to a corner. There has been demand from the farming community that damaged produce be procured by the State government. However, there has been no response from the government.

The BJP government at the Centre was in favour of granting more funds and development projects to Telangana. The State government should pursue them and follow procedures to secure them.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao came to Warangal and camped here for four days. What was the impact? Is there any progress in works he promised? What happened to the housing scheme for slum-dwellers? What happened to the much promised underground drainage? Mr. Prabhakar sought to know.
