Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has said that one of the new districts to be carved out of the existing 10 districts in the State will be named after Telangana ideologue, K. Jayashankar.
“Prof. Jayashankar brought to light several aspects of the injustice done to Telangana,” Mr. Rao said, addressing the third death anniversary meeting at the TRS headquarters here on Saturday. Recalling the contribution of the former Kakatiya University Vice-Chancellor, the Chief Minister said it was his commitment for achieving a separate Telangana that had led to the mass movement. “It is our misfortune that the towering personality is not here when the dream of Telangana people has been realised,” he said.
“He always visualized a separate State where people would live together happily,” Mr. Rao said.
The Chief Minister said that whenever the State budget was presented, Prof. Jayashankar would minutely go through the allocations made to Telangana region. “Despite attempts to crush the movement against Telangana, the former academic never stopped his pursuit of the cause,” he remarked.
Mr. Rao said he was influenced by his knowledge about the ills plaguing the region.
