A meeting of the full court of all the sitting judges of High Court at Hyderabad has favoured proposal to construct a new building for Andhra Pradesh High Court near the site where the permanent building is to come up in Justice City at Amaravati, the new capital of AP.
A committee of five judges which visited three buildings proposed for construction by the AP Government to accommodate various courts was not fully satisfied with the facilities there. It is learnt that the committee felt that these three did not meet the requirements and majesty befitting the institution.
The AP Government had requested the High Court to send a team of judges to visit the proposed buildings so that the High Court exclusively for AP State can start functioning till the permanent building is built at Justice City.
The committee visited these buildings in and around Vijayawada on February 10 and 11 and apprised other judges in the meeting of full court on Thursday.
The AP Government had also proposed to build a new building about half a kilometer from the site where the permanent building will come up. This building was initially proposed for city courts and other judicial forums. Now the AP Government wants to modify the plan to suit the requirements of the High Court and construct a building.
This will house the AP High Court till new permanent building comes up as per the original plan. Then this building will house the city courts etc. It is learnt that the full court accepted this proposal in principle. It is yet to be ratified and communicated to the Government.
