NCC cadets to begin river sailing expedition today

Thirty NCC cadets from both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will embark on a nine-day river sailing expedition in the Godavari from Bhadrachalam in Khammam district to Samalkot in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. Those selected for the expedition will sail a distance of 455 km in two Whaler boats. A team of trained instructors from Indian Navy will accompany them. Captain G. Vivekanand from Indian Navy will be the camp commandant.

The 6 Andhra NCC Naval Unit, Kakinada, is conducting the sailing expedition to enable the NCC cadets experience adventure sailing.

The expedition aims to inculcate a spirit of adventure, leadership qualities and team spirit among the NCC cadets. It will conclude at Samalkot on October 2. According to sources, all the 30 NCC cadets of different colleges have undergone training on various aspects of river sailing, including safety measures in a conditioning camp held as a prelude to the expedition in Bhadrachalam. They will set out on expedition from the temple town on Thursday.
