The Telangana government is taking careful measures to ensure that the word ‘nativity’ doesn’t figure anywhere in the engineering admission process to avoid legal hassles.
The Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, wants the nativity of the students be decided on the birth place of their parents and a cut-off date of 1956 was floated. But officials feel there is every possibility of it being challenged in the courts citing the existing norms and also the guarantees given under the A.P. State Reorganisation Bill.
The draft is being prepared carefully in tune with the government’s thought process of extending the fee reimbursement scheme “only to Telangana students and not to those hailing from Andhra Pradesh”. Moreover, the same yardstick could be applied for future recruitments to ensure that only Telangana students benefit in admissions and employment.
Mr. Chadrasekhar Rao, who held a meeting with the officials here on Friday asked them to expedite the process, seek legal opinion and incorporate their views. A senior official said that it might take a week for the guidelines to be framed for engineering counselling process.
The government is likely to file an appeal in the Supreme Court on Monday seeking extension of the deadline for engineering admissions to October from July 31.
