A debt-ridden farmer allegedly ended his life unable to cope with mounting financial burden at Erraguntapadu village in Vesmur mandal on Tuesday.

The police identified the deceased as Chintala Pochaiah, 55, of Erraguntapadu. Sources said that Pochaiah allegedly swallowed insecticide near his agriculture field in the afternoon. He succumbed to the poisonous substance while being rushed to a hospital in the mandal headquarters.

Pochaiah allegedly resorted to the extreme step after making futile attempts to clear outstanding debts incurred by him in agriculture operations.
