Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao said that Mission Kakatiya, one of the flagship programmes of the State government, has been attracting international attention.
Addressing a gathering along with Deputy Speaker M. Padma Devender Reddy after laying the foundation stone for the modernisation and increase in height of Gahnapur anicut at Papannapet mandal at an estimated cost of Rs. 43 crore, Mr. Rao said that the government was committed to improve water resources in the State and there was no dearth of funds for this programme.
“A team from Chicago University has expressed interest to conduct a study on the programme, and we have accorded permission for that,” said Mr. Rao.
Informing that Union Minister Uma Bharati has also appreciated the programme, he said that other States were suggested to follow the programme.
Coming down heavily against the Congress party, the Minister said as much as Rs. 820 crore was sanctioned in the last two years for restoration of tanks, while even Rs. 100 crore was not sanctioned during the Congress rule.
He has also said that godowns are being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 1,021 crore in the State to benefit farmers.
